EQUIDRY’s oversized coats are designed to handle extreme weather and tough environments, but proper care is essential to keep them performing at their best. From daily dirt removal to deep cleaning and reproofing, here's how to maintain your oversized coat’s waterproofing, breathability, and freshness.

Everyday Cleaning

Frequent light cleaning helps preserve the waterproof coat’s technical features by preventing the accumulation of dirt that could block zips or affect the water-repellent finish. It also helps reduce the need for frequent machine washing, extending the life of your oversized coat.

To keep your gear clean and fresh, start by wiping down the outer layer with a damp cloth or sponge after each use to remove surface dirt like dust, hair, and debris. For heavier build-up, such as mud or dried-on dirt, rinse thoroughly with a hose to clear away the grime. Between full washes, you can refresh your gear using Grangers Odour Eliminator Spray, which neutralises unpleasant smells without compromising the waterproof membrane.

Machine Washing

Over time, regular use can lead to a build-up of dirt, oils, and odours that surface cleaning alone may not fully remove. In those instances, machine washing is recommended to maintain the performance and longevity of your oversized coat.

To safely machine wash your oversized coat without damaging its materials or compromising any waterproof or insulating properties, follow these guidelines carefully:

  • Temperature: Wash on a gentle cycle at 30°C. Avoid hotter settings, as this can degrade technical coatings.

  • Detergent: Use Performance Wash from Grangers Clothing Care Kit, which is a technical cleaner designed specifically for waterproof gear.

  • Frequency: Only machine wash your oversized coat when necessary, as over-washing waterproof coats can wear down the coatings and cause long-term damage to both the fabric and stitching.

  • Avoid: Fabric softeners, standard detergents, tumble drying, ironing, or dry cleaning, as these can hinder the waterproof layers and seams.

Post-Wash Reproofing

Machine washing, even with technical cleaners, can reduce the effectiveness of waterproof coatings. Reproofing ensures your EQUIDRY oversized waterproof coat continues to resist rain, mud, and snow just like it did when new.

While the oversized coat is still damp, apply Grangers Performance Repel Plus evenly across the outer fabric. The formula is PFC-free and bluesign® approved, making it safe for both your waterproof coat and the environment. Along with the Performance Wash and free Active Wash sample, the reproofing spray is included in the Grangers Clothing Care Kit.

Drying Best Practices

Following the recommended drying guidelines is just as important as the wash itself when it comes to maintaining the performance, shape, and longevity of your oversized coat. After washing, always follow the care label instructions closely and take the time to dry your coat properly before storing.

Drying guidelines:

To preserve the quality and performance of your oversized equestrian coat, follow these drying guidelines.

  • Air dry only: Hang your waterproof coat in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Use a hanger or rail to maintain the shape and allow for even drying.

  • Avoid heat sources: Never place near a radiator, open flame, or heater, as excess heat can warp or shrink the material and destroy the waterproof membrane.

  • No direct sunlight: Prolonged UV exposure can fade the fabric and weaken the coat’s waterproofing.

  • Ensure it’s fully dry: Always let your oversized coat dry completely before storing or reproofing, as damp coats can develop mildew or persistent odours.
