EQUIDRY Zip Care Guide: Two-Way Zip Tips & Repairs

Learn how to use, clean and care for your EQUIDRY two-way zip to keep your coat performing at its best.

Let's face it, weather forecasts are more of a suggestion, mud somehow gets everywhere, and the last thing you want is to be fighting with your zip during a heavy downpour. Your EQUIDRY coat is built for whatever the weather throws at it, but a little zip care goes a long way. Here's how to use, clean and look after your two-way zip to keep your coat performing at its best.

How Your EQUIDRY Two-Way Zip Works

Found on the waterproof oversized coats, fitted coats and selected short jackets, the EQUIDRY two-way zips are designed to move with you, not against you.

Get it set up correctly:

  1. Place both sliders at the bottom of the zip

  2. Insert the zip base into the bottom slider until it clicks into place

  3. Hold the bottom slider steady

  4. Pull the top slider upwards to close the zip

The bottom slider can be adjusted up or down for comfort, helping your coat move naturally whether you are riding or working on the yard. This setup also keeps tension even across your EQUIDRY coat zip, helping to reduce wear.

How to Use Your Zip When Mounting or Dismounting

When getting on or off your horse, your zip needs to be adjusted to allow movement and avoid pressure points.

Before mounting, dismounting or bending over:

  1. Fully open both side zips

  2. Pull the bottom slider up so it sits at waist or hip height

  3. Make sure there is no tight pulling or strain on the zip

If you are bending, lifting or sitting, always ensure the zip is not under pressure. This helps protect your waterproof riding coat and keeps the zip working smoothly.

How to Clean Your Coat Zip

Mud, dust and horse hair are the most common causes of zip issues on riding coats and jackets.

To keep your EQUIDRY zip working properly:

  • Brush away dirt using a soft brush

  • Use a pin to gently remove trapped debris between teeth

  • Vacuum loose grit if needed

Regular cleaning helps prevent sticking, stiffness and long-term damage. For full washing instructions, visit the EQUIDRY Product Care Guide.

What to Do If Your Zip Jams

Do not force a jammed zip, as this can cause permanent damage.

Instead:

  • Lower both sliders if possible

  • Check for mud, fabric or debris caught in the teeth

  • Ensure the bottom pin is correctly aligned and fully inserted

  • Hold the fabric flat and gently pull the slider upwards

If the zip is still stiff:

  • Use a small amount of zip lubricant

  • Or lightly rub a soft pencil along the teeth

If the problem continues, stop using the zip immediately and contact the team for support.
